Since the release of Assassin’s Creed 2, Ubisoft has successfully launched a new Assassin’s Creed game every year, almost to the day. When this new Assassin’s Creed launches however, it will be the first installment since 2009 that will feature a new protagonist, moving the series away from the popular Florence assassin, Ezio Auditore, whose in-game story ended in Revelations and whose life came to a peaceful end in the short film Embers.
Guillemot has extremely high hopes for Assassin’s Creed 3, as does Game Rant, with the aforementioned title ranked #7 on our 25 most anticipated games of 2012 list. While releasing a game every year has raised the obvious question about continued game quality for the series, Guillemont is not worried about brand dilution.
Considering that Ubisoft has already stated that the series could feasibly go on forever, as long as there is no worry about diluting the brand and there is always a fresh, new take on future installments, it will be a welcomed, annual tradition to see a new Assassin’s Creed game on store shelves each holiday season.
We have already compiled a list of what we want to see in Assassin’s Creed 3 (and Ranters blew up the comments with their own ideas too!) which will conclude the story of Desmond Miles; suffice to say the 2012 holiday gaming season can’t get here soon enough for Assassin’s Creed fans, especially considering the timing of its expected release date and its implications with the game’ story being based in 2012 and revolving around the end of the world.
Ranters, is there anything else you want from Assassin’s Creed 3 that hasn’t been mentioned yet? What do you think Ubisoft means by “biggest to date?”
Assassin’s Creed 3 will be released during the 2012 holiday season for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
