While speaking to Fight Nation on SiriusXM, Sanko spoke about becoming the first woman to become a color commentator in the modern UFC era. She mentioned that she has mixed feelings because of some of the difficulties she faced while striving to become a UFC commentator:
The former Invicta atomweight also described the difficulties for women in the broadcasting industry. She mentioned that there she would like to be an example for other women that they too can be involved in different areas of broadcasting whether it’s reporting, hosting, or commentary, saying:
Although Sanko is the first female color commentator in the modern UFC era, her success could lead to that becoming the norm and more women being encouraged to become commentators as well.

Laura Sanko made history as it was announced that she will serve as the first female commentator in the modern UFC era. She credited UFC president Dana White for his encouragement throughout the years as she developed her skills on Contender Series.
During her appearance on Morning Kombat, the fighter-turned-broadcaster spoke about her experience on the Contender Series. She shared a story of when she sent a DM to White one night after the show, telling him she intends to be the promotion’s first female commentator, saying:
